Cohesive communities and their future sustainability lie at the heart of the Welland SSP’s economic strategy, and the SSP is committed to a multi-agency approach and partnering with other organisations to deliver lasting success.
SSP actions and projects continue to enhance the role of Welland market towns as centres of economic development, under the guidance of the Welland’s Market Towns Advisory Group. Town centre management, youth projects, core re-development initiatives and master-planning have all received SSP support
At village and rural community level, The Welland SSP is working in partnership with voluntary sector organisations and rural community councils to assess and address needs at grass roots level. Community catalyst grants continue to pump prime local initiatives and a Wheels to Work programme is putting youngsters on the road through a moped loan scheme.
Overall The Welland SSP places an emphasis on capacity building and cohesion and social and economic inclusion at community level, with a successful social enterprise and social capital programme.
Development and delivery of rural access and enterprise centres will lead to local delivery of training and support services, linked to market towns enterprise centres in a hub-and-spoke delivery model.
The SSP has been at the forefront of engaging and partnering with under-represented groups and continues this work through specific programmes such as Enterprising Welland Women to ensure that women in rural areas contribute to their maximum potential.
It has a strong Local Authority and Local Strategic Partnership network involving business and private /public sector organisations, boosting and assisting our contribution to the Modernising Rural Delivery programme.
Support for an award winning and innovative information and advice network through GP surgeries has helped those most at risk of social and rural isolation return to learning and employment opportunities
